This week's weekend recap is gonna have to be a two for one. There is just SO much to share!
Saturday morning I was up at 5:30 because it was finally HALF MARATHON day!!
Joe was crashed on the couch so I had time to fiddle around and get my nervous jitters out. Once he was up, I stretched out, tried to force myself to pee a good four times, and got my shoes on.
Then the surprises started!!
I had been texting with Sara all morning, got a good luck text from her around 6am. Shared with her how I was trying to make myself pee, that Joe was like a zombie for a good 10 minutes, and that Molly was gonna run by and pee before heading down to our gates.
Little did I know, Sara and Joe were also texting. And had been for a good week leading up to the race!!
I came downstairs to Sara at my front door ready to cheer me on, sneakers on in case I needed a run buddy for a couple minutes!!
I WAS FLOORED.
I think I jumped up and down and cried!
Once Molly arrived, we were off to the races, literally.
I was in Gate 15 and we had a good ole time waiting for our starting line moment of glory.
There was dancing, pictures, GoPro videos, and of course praying.
Then we were OFF! I got to see Joe and Sara at Mile 2 after climbing the awful Demonbruen hill and again at Mile 10 when I was starting to feel it. Sara jumped on the course with me and ran me to the end of 11th South before I took on Capitol Hill.
After the most grueling 3.1 miles I decided to YOLO and sprinted to the finish line for an official time of 2:05 even. Then it was the parade of chocolate milk, Gatorade, bananas, Power Bar, and best of all MY MEDAL!! Joe and Sara were already there waiting for me, but I had to call mom before I found them. You see, while I was running for 2 hours mom was running stairs in solidarity with me! Because she is the greatest mom and friend ever! Once I found them, the tears started. Sara being the sneaky picture taker she is got this amazing shot of me and Joe's post-race hug!
The half marathon journey came full circle when Sara and I got to pictures after mine like we did after her's back in September!
Then we were off to the medical tent to get this girl some ICE!! After a leisurely stroll back to 5th and a nice sit, Sara was headed back home and Joe and I were headed to surprise mom [after Zaxby's of course.]
I could not have asked for a more blessed run or life after Saturday morning. I felt so extremely loved and supported and am so humbled by it. A huge THANK YOU to my sweet little brother for helping me train, listening to me babble about aches and pains, eating Jimmy John's on the couch with me pre-race, and being there for me to grab when I finished! Thank you to my sweet friend, since the summer of 08, for giving me such a wonderful surprise and awesome support not only on race day but through my grueling 10 miler.
And to my momma, thank you for giving me the strength and motivation to climb those hills and keep going by knowing you were in this with me, literally. I could not have asked for a more loving and unwavering flow of support.
All I can say is #halfcrazy and proud of it!
