What I'm Watching Wednesday

Yep, it's that time again! Checked another two movies off my watch list along with a third [that Redbox second rental for $.50 gets me every time] that was unplanned and hilarious. So let's get to it:

I had previously blogged about Dark Places finally being released earlier this month. Well thanks to it's "limited release" lame I resorted to literally Google-ing how I could find the movie. Enter YouTube. Yes, YouTube. You can apparently rent movies for $6 on YouTube, hollar for a dollar [or six.] While I was less than thrilled with the ending of Gone Girl [the book] the movie did it justice. Dark Places was the exact opposite. For starters riddle me this, why do you have a 40 year old playing a character who is supposed to be in her late 20's. Oh because Charlize Theron produced the movie that's why. The casting was off in my opinion except for Christina Hendricks who did a knock out job of playing Mrs. Day. The book is incredible. The movie fell flat [on it's face.] My recommendation, read the book skip the movie.

This one I had been waiting and waiting for and could not hit play fast enough, The Longest Ride.

Seriously not enough amazing things I can say about this movie. Probably my favorite Nicholas Sparks movie, hands down. Now there's no rain drenched sex scene or 365 letters. And there's no dramatic reunion between lost lovers. This movie is about real life and how messy love really is. I loved it. RENT IT ASAP.

And finally my $.50 rental, The Duff. 

Absolutely hilarious. This is the perfect movie to have on when you're doing emails or bills. Super light and witty. So many one liners I was cracking up at [intramural Wii golf..] I was pleasantly surprised. Well done Redbox recommendations, well done.

I could write multiple posts on my feeling towards Gone Girl, both the book and the movie, and the ending that ticked off probably 98% of America. However Gillian Flynn redeemed herself with me with Dark Places and Sharp Objects. Both of these books are am-a-za-zing and after months of rumors the trailer for Dark Places was released this week!

In case you've been living under a rock [probably trying to escape this heat] The Bachelorette finally picked her one and only Monday night. It's no secret this season had some scandy, sketchy, and WTF moments and white girls everywhere can rejoice because a conspiracy theory has finally been published! Go ahead, just read and nod along.

Your desk just got a little prettier because Lilly launched her fall "accessories" line.

The name of the game last night in my house was Gillian Flynn.

If you aren't familiar with this author, you should remedy that immediately, she is the woman behind the best seller Gone Girl [and Dark Places and Sharp Objects.]

I read Gone Girl over Christmas break 2012 and was glued to it. No joke, finished it in two days.

I discovered Dark Places and Sharp Object this Christmas break and finally finished Sharp Objects last night.

I'm going to tell you now,

READ. THEM. ALL.

Now I'm going to warn you, there is no lack of dark in Dark Places. And Sharp Objects is just as creepy, bizarre, chilling. But they are all just so good. And the cherry on top?

The Gone Girl trailer came out last night!!!

I can not tell you how excited I am about this. I've been following this movie since it was rumored Reese Witherspoon was going to play the main character of Amy Dunne. Trying not to give anything away for those who haven't read the book, but it was revealed in an article I read that Gillian Flynn [who wrote the screenplay] completely changed the ending! Now I'm even more excited. [I freaking hated that ending, made me so mad.] 

Oh, I almost forgot the best part; once you watch the trailer, call the tip line displayed in the trailer (855-4-Amy-Tips) for "a nifty treat that will delight book fans, and new fans, alike."

Now if I can just make it to October 3rd..

I like big books and I can not lie

One of my resolutions for this year was to turn off the TV and get lost in a book more nights a week. So I wanted to share the stack of books on the end of my couch I am hoping to work my way through by May. 

Why May?

Because that's when the new Emily Giffin comes out! 

Emily's own description of the book gave my book worm self heart palpitations

"It’s a story about love and friendship set against the backdrop of Texas football. Think Friday Night Lights meets When Harry Met Sally."

But I digress, here are my beautifully bound best friends for the next couple months:

1. Dark Places- Gillian Flynn [yes the same author as Gone Girl, get ready!]

2. Beautiful Ruins- Jess Walter [will probably pass this one off to mom as soon as I'm done, we're a sucker for an Italian setting]

3. Keep Calm and Carry a Big Drink- Kim Gruenenfelder [same author as There's Cake in My Future, hot Southern mess characters #obsessed]

4. The Single Woman- Mandy Hale [don't worry, I haven't given up on love yet. A great read for any 20-something]

5. Jesus Today- Sarah Young [I think it's becoming a tradition to add a new Sarah Young devotional every New Year's Day]
