Red Carpet Round-Up: The SAG Awards

Here we find ourselves again, another Sunday another red carpet to critique while waiting for laundry to dry. I will admit I was kind of disappointed with the SAG red carpet this year. There was lot of black, dresses with unnecessary embellishments, and Ariel Winter's cleavage [bless her].

My first two picks have one common denominator, color.
While it usually bothers me when a dress is in between floor length and tea length, Sophie Bush in Marchesa is stunning. I love the subtle accent of the flower in the crease. Simple hair brings the whole look together and makes the dress the focal point.

Michelle Dockery and Elie Saub are a match made in vertical color block striped heaven. This dress is incredible, I would wear it in a heartbeat [and probably never take it off.]

My next two are all about some bling and beading.
Emily Blunt would put Daisy Buchanan to shame in this gorgeous beaded number by Roberto Cavalli. Again, simple hair is key with all these looks.

I don't think I've ever done a red carpet round-up and not had Giuliana on it.
After all, when you're the host of Fashion Police you need to be looking better than them all.

Finally, my signature "ringer" of the night.
Claire Foy in Valentino. Yes, Queen, yes.

Five on Friday

1.
First things first, TGIT is back.
#praisehands

2.
After living in Knoxville for four years during college and now a year and a half in post-grad life, I am finally going to my first Ice Bears game this weekend! #sportsandbeer

3.
I will admit, I barely made it through 50 Shades of Grey. And after finishing it I didn't have a burning desire to start 50 Shades Darker.
However, after seeing all the promos for the movie and now the very steamy music video for I Don't Wanna Live Forever I will be heading to Target to buy the book.
Yes, the video is that good, check it out below.

4.
ICYMI: My Kind of Lovely is having a huge warehouse sale this weekend!
You do not want to miss this, Caroline and Katie have even cleaned out their closets!

5.
After finishing The Tudors last weekend I was on the search for a new series to watch.
Enter, The Frontier. Jason Momoa, from Game of Thrones, stars as Declan Harp a fur trader in the 1700s who has gone rogue from the British company. If you love complicated character back stories and some bloody good violence this is the show for you!

Lately: January

Listening:
One of my favorite bands The Maine released new music for the first time in two years. To say I was anxious to hear it was an understatement. However they did not disappoint and Bad Behavior was everything I had hoped for, very reminiscent of their first album. Only 75 more days until Lovely, Little, Lonely is released in its entirety... not like I'm not counting down or anything.

Reading:
Lilly: Palm Beach, Tropical Glamour, and the Birth of a Fashion Legend. -Kathryn Livington
I am a huge lover of Lilly Pulitzer, her bold prints make any day a little more colorful and full of life.
I had heard her biography was a really good read so I took advantage of a Barnes & Noble coupon I had been holding on to and ordered it. I'm only a couple chapters in but am already loving learning more about the lady behind the brand I love.

Watching:
The Tudors
I am not a huge history buff but this series piqued my interest when I was sick a couple weeks ago. Jonathan Rhys Meyers stars as Henry VIII and it explores all his conquests both in and out of the bedroom. All four seasons are on Netflix so you can binge uninterrupted.

Smelling:
While it might be the middle of January I am still burning my Gingerbread House candle from Target. The scent is the perfect subtle scent but fills up the apartment with a warm aroma. I figure by the time this candle burns out it will be time to break out the peony candle for spring!

Wearing:
OPI "Never Have Too Mani Friends!"
After rocking some light nails for NYE back to my staple black.

Drinking:
Michelob Ultra Lime Cactus
Yes, I was skeptical of a flavored beer too but we had it at the beach this summer and it was actually really good! I've had it the past two weeks during the Steeler game and now it's part of my playoff superstition. #herewego

Lusting Over:
Ivanka Trump's style from Inauguration week.
Every single one of her outfits was stunning. I saw someone tweet she is the American equivalent of Kate Middleton and I couldn't agree more.

Counting down to:
Maren Morris in Knoxville
The ADDY's
A long weekend home

Five on Friday

1.
Ed Sheeran finally quit teasing and announced the release date for his third album this week. Only 49 more days until Divide comes out on March 3rd. Let the countdown [and stalking of tour dates] begin!

2.
The My Kind of Lovely semi annual sale started this week!!
There are so many amazing pieces included at prices you cannot beat.
Take a look and get to ordering!

3.
While being home sick for two days this week I discovered two really great shows on Netflix that are 100% binge worthy: Medici, Masters of Florence and Versailles. Each are under 10 episodes and it's a good thing because you'll be hooked not even 5 minutes in.

4.
ICYMI: Ashley Brooke Designs has the cutest calendar print for January.
Download it [and all her others] here.

5.
DIVISONAL playoff weekend is here!

You make me want to be a star

You say I make you shy
I don't know why
Every time we kiss
It gets better every time
Underneath the light
You're shining so bright
The attention in the air
You could cut it with a knife
See, I'm just tryna be somebody
You got me in love so deep
No, I don't got to do these things
But you make me

You make me wanna be romantic
You make me wanna be a star
You make me wanna act different
I love you for who you are
You make me want to run circles around you
So glad that I found you
You make me wanna be romantic
You make me wanna be a star

Have you got the time?
We could do dinner and wine
I could complement you
But that would take all night
See, I'm just tryna be somebody
You got me in love so deep
No, I don't got to do these things
But you make me

You make me wanna be romantic
You make me wanna be a star
You make me wanna act different
I love you for who you are
You make me wanna run circles around you
So glad that I found you
You make me wanna be romantic
You make me wanna be a star

You make me wanna be romantic
You make me wanna be a star
You make me wanna be different
Love you for who you are
You make me wanna do circles around you
So glad I found you
I just wanna be romantic
I just wanna be a star

You make me wanna do things I never seem to do
Never said those three words
But I say'em to you
You make me wanna say things I never seem to say
Make me as quiet I always acting this way
You make me wanna do things I never seem to do
Never said those three words
But I say'em to you
You make me wanna say things and never seem to say
You make ma as quite
Always acting this way

You make me wanna be romantic
You make me wanna be a star
You make me wanna act different
I love you for who you are
You make me wanna run circles around you
So glad that I found you
You make me wanna be romantic
You make me wanna be a star

I found this song driving to work Friday morning on Spotify's New Music Friday playlist and had it on repeat around the house this weekend. I love the lyrics of the chorus.
After all isn't that what everyone wants to feel like when they find their person?

Red Carpet Round-up: The Golden Globes

Ah my favorite time of the year is upon us, red carpet season. When I get to sit in Victoria's Secret PINK sweatpants circa 2007 and judge people while smelling like tanning lotion.
The Golden Globes snuck up on me, I was more caught up in the playoffs and watching gifs of Bud Dupree almost killing the Dolphins quarterback. But I am so glad Twitter reminded me and here we are.  So without further rambling, let the fun begin.

There seemed to be a lot of sparkle this year, some good...a lot bad.
But these two ladies did it well ["you're doing it wellll" J-Lo voice] in my opinion. I think the silver isn't as harsh as gold so it works.

Moving on to florals and prints. As you might have guessed, I am a lover of both but they can go south quickly. Here are two who I thought found a good balance and pulled it off. The cut out/wide straps on Olivia Culpo's gown broke up the bold pattern and made it easier on the eyes. And lez be honest Guliana always kills it.

These next few would fall into the metallics category I suppose.
All are bold in their own way but I am really loving the gold on Emily Ratajkowski. Just when I thought she couldn't get any sexier...

Finally, keeping it simple with some solids. You can never go wrong with a solid colored dress and minimal accessories. I love all three of these looks because they didn't overpower the dress with jewels. I thought Sienna Miller's dress was gorgeous but hated the double bracelets and necklace.

And finally the real life Disney princess category.
I could never pull off this dress and lip with Lily Collins' coloring but she does, every dang time.

Some of the flops of the night included: Kerry Washington, Carrie Underwood, Sophie Turner, Priyanka Chopra, Nicole Kidman, and Eli Manning.

Until next time.

Five [Resolutions] on [the first] Friday [of 2017]

1.

I have at least three books lined up on the arm of my couch I have been dying to read since this fall.
I am resolving to turn off the tablet at night and crack open a book.

2.
SAVE MONEY

This one will be a resolution of mine for probably the rest of my life but last year I actually did it and it felt great.

3.
LEAVE WORK AT THE OFFICE

Physically and mentally.

4.
GO TO MASS

I use my devotional/prayer books as a great way to rationalize not physically going to mass.
I am resolving to go to mass a minimum of once a month. [we'll start with once and hopefully go more]

5.
BE HAPPY WITH WHERE I AM IN LIFE

I am resolving to stop looking to the future for joy and be happy with where I am right now.

Running into 2017 like....

Story of my life November-March

Monday, January 2, 2017

Hello 2017!

For the first time in my 26 years I had a successful New Year's Eve!
They say rain is good luck on your wedding day but that must ring true for NYE as well because even though the weather was a little less than stellar the night was amazing. Third wheeling with good friends lead to making lots of new friends and there's nothing better than kicking off your shoes [literally] and sending 2016 off with pizza and champagne!

Dress: Rent the Runway- Elizabeth and James Navy Abella Dress
